Where it all began…
Somewhere there is a young programmer writing their first piece of code. It really is an exciting moment, learning for the first time how to write a program…even if it can only say “Hello World!”
I can recall when I was 10 years old, the excitement of my Dad bringing home our first computer. It was a IBM PS/1! With a 486 processor and 1 Megabyte of RAM, this was a beast of a machine. Initially we focused on how to connect to this “thing” my Dad heard about at work from a friend…the “Internet.” We then turned to some of the preinstalled games from Microsoft, and of course arranging the actual windows on the desktop to be as conducive of a workspace as possible. It probably wasn’t until a couple months past when I realized the computer game with a programming language preinstalled, QBasic.
I was truly in awe, I had read about programming languages before…in particular Basic. The moment I wrote that first line of code my world was changed, PRINT “Hello World.” We all have defining moments in our life, this was one of them. From that point, now 25+ years ago, I’ve earned a handful of degrees in IT with a strong programming focus and I have had a driven passion creating software and always trying to grow with the industry.
